Investigation of Effective Irrigation Strategies for High-Density Apple Orchards in Pennsylvania

چکیده
Irrigation helps grow agricultural crops in dry areas and during periods of inadequate rainfall. Proper irrigation could improve both crop productivity produce quality. For high density apple orchards, water relations are even more important. Most tree fruit orchards is applied based on grower’s experience or simple observations, which may lead to over- under-irrigation. To investigate an effective strategy high-density orchard, three methods were tested including soil moisture-based, evapotranspiration (ET)-based conventional methods. In moisture-based irrigation, content potential sensors measured side by side. ET-based daily ET (ETc) accumulated deficit calculated. Conventional method was the operator. The experiment conducted from early June through middle October (one growing season). Lastly, consumption, yield quality analyzed for these strategies. Results indicated that used least water, with 10.8% 4.8% less than methods, respectively. rows slightly higher other two, while similar. outcome this study proved effectiveness using moisture scheduling be important step future automatic system.

متن کاملApple Scab Management Options for High-Inoculum Orchards
Apple scab emerged as an expensive problem in apple orchards throughout the Northeastern United States in 2009. Experienced growers who had managed scab effectively for many years found themselves spray ing throughout summer to control scab that kept appearing on new leaves. Th e effort required to protect fruit from scab during summer increased production costs and represents a “loss” to apple...
متن کاملRobotic Surveying of Apple Orchards
We present a novel system for surveying apple orchards by counting apples and estimating apple diameters. Existing surveying systems resort to active sensors, or high-resolution close-up images under controlled lighting conditions. The main novelty of our system is the use of a traditional low resolution stereo-system mounted on a small aerial vehicle. Vision processing in this set up is challe...
متن کاملAutomated Crop Yield Estimation for Apple Orchards
Crop yield estimation is an important task in apple orchard management. The current manual sampling-based yield estimation is time-consuming, labor-intensive and inaccurate. To deal with this challenge, we developed a computer vision-based system for automated, rapid and accurate yield estimation. The system uses a two-camera stereo rig for image acquisition. It works at nighttime with controll...
متن کاملEvaluation of pheromone-based management strategies for dogwood borer (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) in commercial apple orchards.
The dogwood borer, Synanthedon scitula (Harris) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae), is a serious wood-boring pest of apple in eastern North America. The recent identification of its sex pheromone and systematic documentation of the effect of a potent behavioral antagonist affords the opportunity to develop pheromone-based management strategies for this important pest. Here we evaluated the potential of ph...
